I've dubbed 2018 the year of the basement. Since moving into our house two years ago I have completely ignored the downstairs living area. I totally gutted and remodelled our kitchen, bought new furniture for our upstairs living room and kitted out our living room. But then I just stopped. I didn't continue on in the basement. We threw some of our existing furniture downstairs and left it at that. But then I got pregnant and went out on maternity leave and suddenly had a lot of time on my hands. I thought this is the time to tackle the basement. So I jumped in. The first thing we did was paint the walls. Then we bought some great bookcases, a tv bench and wall mounted our TV. We made a smoking hot entertainment centre for ourselves. My hubby ran wires to our surround sound system and everything. Then we got a new couch and I hung art. I hunted for rugs and decor accessories. In January I completed a 23 foot long gallery wall. I've done so much. I still have to get accent tables, swap out all the gross boob light fixtures for pot lighting and sort out the playroom. There's a long way to go before it's done but I've also done a lot as well.
But today let's talk about refreshing the downstairs bathroom. You guys, I call it a micro-bathroom. My friends refer to it as an airplane bathroom. It's crazy tiny but it's still a three piece bathroom. And guess what? It's untouched since we moved in! Quelle surprise. And for some reason I decided to host Galentine's Day on February 17th in my basement. So I need to address the bathroom. But I don't have the time or funds to do a complete overhaul. So I'll be doing what I'm calling a refresh. Sprucing the place up so that it's decent for company. You know on those cheesy old sitcoms in the 80s when the wife looks to her husband sitting on the couch with no pants on and says "We've got company coming over! Hurry up and make yourself look presentable!" I'm doing the bathroom equivalent to that, quickly putting some pants on before my guests see my underwear.
But before I can start the sprucing I need a plan for the refresh. And every good plan for a room starts with a colour palette. I've been pondering mixing two colours together. One neutral and one slightly bolder colour. And I think I've decided on blush and jade. The bathroom is small so I have to be careful I don't overwhelm the space with too much. But it can totally handle a soft blush pink as one of the colours. Blush is the new neutral right?! That's what 2017 taught me. Once I decided on the neutral I needed the slightly bolder colour to go along with it. I was wandering around the internet and saw the picture below of the blush and jade green bathroom and I was SOLD. I mean look at it! It somehow feels soothing and alive all at the same time. I also get gemstone vibes from the combo: rose quartz and jade. The jade is more muted than emerald as well as less fussy. Emerald has always felt kinda uppity to me. And it would overpower the tiny space. So I started hunting for inspiration photos of jade and blush. Because that's step two to planning a room: make a mood board of inspiration photos. And once I started digging I turned up some great stuff. I feel buzzed when I look at the pictures. This is always a good sign. Take a gander and tell me what you think.
